My education reflects a longstanding commitment to Visual Arts, practical learning and creative achievement. From early recognition in Art and Design to my current Bachelor of Education, each stage has contributed to the knowledge, technical skills and professional experience I now bring to secondary teaching.

I am completing my final year of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) with a Distinction average. My remaining coursework is scheduled for completion at the end of 2026, followed by my final Assistant Teacher Program professional practice in Term 1, 2027.
 

I have been advised that my final professional practice may be completed alongside employment, subject to ECU approval and the granting of employer-sponsored Limited Registration by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

I completed my Certificate III in Hairdressing through Challenger TAFE while undertaking my apprenticeship at House of Ernest. Then owned and directed by Ernest Grady, House of Ernest was widely regarded within the industry as Perth’s leading high-end salon and one of the city’s most respected names in professional hairdressing.
 

I was selected by Ernest Grady to become his personal apprentice. Under his direct mentorship, I received intensive technical training, participated in specialist professional courses and gained individual editorial experience working alongside professional photographers. These opportunities provided an early understanding of how hair design, styling, photography, lighting and visual direction work together to create a resolved editorial image.
 

My formal and workplace training developed professional competence across cutting, colouring, chemical services, styling, consultation, client care, workplace health and safety, retail practices and salon operations. I progressed rapidly and, by the end of my first year, was working independently on the salon floor and performing at the level of a senior stylist.
 

I also competed extensively in both live on-stage and photographic editorial competitions. These experiences required creativity, technical precision, detailed planning, time management and the ability to perform under pressure. Across my early career, I received more than 30 hairdressing awards.

While completing my qualification, I was selected to represent Challenger TAFE as part of the hair team for Perth Fashion Week. This opportunity provided professional experience within a live fashion environment, working collaboratively and efficiently to prepare models for runway presentation within strict production schedules.
 

This training established the foundation for my subsequent career as a senior stylist, editorial and runway creative, vocational educator, salon owner and employer. I later extended my technical education through advanced professional development with Vidal Sassoon in London.
 

My hairdressing background continues to inform my teaching through its emphasis on explicit demonstration, visual communication, technical precision, creative problem-solving and the progressive development of practical competence. It also enables me to contribute specialist knowledge to photography, Media, Drama, character design, school productions, exhibitions and interdisciplinary Arts projects.

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualified me to deliver vocational education and assess nationally recognised training.

The qualification developed my knowledge of lesson planning, competency-based assessment, learner support, training-resource development and the responsibilities of vocational educators.
 

I completed this qualification and began teaching Certificate II and III students Hair and Makeup and Diploma of Specialist Makeup students at Kangan Institute and the Australian College of Hairdressing and Beauty.

Penrhos College

Western Australia | 2000–2005


Western Australian Certificate of Education | 2005

My creative education began at South Perth Primary School, where I was selected to participate in the PIAC Art Extension Program. This early recognition provided an opportunity to extend my artistic skills and established a strong interest in creative learning.
 

I attended Penrhos College from Year 7 in 2000 and graduated in 2005 with the Western Australian Certificate of Education. Art and Design remained central to my secondary education and became an area of significant achievement.
 

In 2005, I received a Certificate of Distinction from the Curriculum Council of Western Australia for outstanding performance in Art and Design. Penrhos College also awarded me the Year 12 Art and Design Subject Prize and an Academic Endeavour Certificate in Art and Design.
 

My artwork was selected as the winner of the Art and Design Prize at the 2005 Penrhos College Art Exhibition. This award recognised the quality of my creative work and its presentation within the graduating exhibition.
 

Penrhos College also nominated me for the Curriculum Council’s wholly school-assessed subject awards in two areas:

  • Art and Design

  • Structured Workplace Learning – Sales and Personal Service
     

These nominations recognised students who had demonstrated consistently high achievement across all assessed outcomes.
 

My secondary education also included substantial participation beyond the Visual Arts classroom. I competed in interschool volleyball and soccer and received school recognition for rowing, soccer and Young Achievement Australia.

My achievements included:

My experience at Penrhos encouraged achievement across academic, creative, vocational and co-curricular areas. This broad approach to education helped shape the values I now bring to teaching: creative confidence, practical capability, personal commitment and active participation in the wider life of a school.

Diploma of Specialist Make-Up Services

Swinburne University of Technology, Victoria | 2013


Award conferred: 25 August 2014

The Diploma of Specialist Make-Up Services provided advanced practical and theoretical preparation for creative work across film, television, theatre, performance, editorial, runway and freelance production environments.
 

The course combined specialist technical training in makeup, hair, wigs, prosthetics and special effects with broader studies in creative thinking, design interpretation, project management, workplace safety, professional presentation, networking and freelance practice.
 

I achieved a High Distinction in every graded unit shown on my academic transcript, including six results of 100 per cent across the specialist creative and production units.
 

Specialist Makeup, Hair and Prosthetics

My specialist practical studies included:

  • Design, Apply and Remove Make-Up: 94, High Distinction

  •  Maintain Make-Up and Hair Continuity: 100, High Distinction

  •  Style Hair for Performance or Productions: 96, High Distinction

  •  Style Wigs and Hairpieces for Performances or Productions: 99, High Distinction

  •  Design and Apply Specialised Make-Up: 95, High Distinction

  •  Design and Apply Special Make-Up Effects: 100, High Distinction

  •  Create Prosthetics for Special Make-Up Effects: 95, High Distinction
     

These units developed advanced skills in designing and applying makeup for performance and production contexts. This included maintaining visual continuity, styling hair and wigs, creating specialised character designs, producing special makeup effects and designing and constructing prosthetic applications.
 

The work required careful research, visual planning, material experimentation, technical precision and an understanding of how makeup, hair and prosthetics contribute to character, narrative and the wider creative direction of a production.
 

Creative Development and Design

The course also developed my ability to research, communicate and realise creative concepts through the following units:

  •  Collaborate in a Creative Process: 100, High Distinction

These studies strengthened my capacity to interpret creative briefs, develop original ideas, present visual concepts and collaborate with other creative professionals. They reinforced the importance of research, communication, experimentation and refinement when translating a concept into a resolved practical outcome.
 

Professional and Production Practice

The professional components of the Diploma included:

These units developed knowledge of workplace safety, project planning, procurement, contracts, professional networking and freelance creative practice. They prepared me to manage the practical and administrative responsibilities surrounding creative production, not only the technical work itself.
 

Professional Application

This qualification supported my subsequent work with musicians and across film, television, theatre, editorial, runway, exhibitions, showcases and live events. It also informed my work as a vocational educator, salon owner and creative director.
 

The combination of specialist practical skill, character development, design interpretation and project management remains highly relevant to my secondary teaching. It enables me to contribute specialist knowledge to Visual Arts, Media, Drama, photography, costume, character design, school productions and interdisciplinary Arts projects.
