Design Technology

My Design & Technologies practice focuses on the design process, material exploration, accurate fabrication and safe workshop practice. Through my studies at Edith Cowan University, I have developed practical capability across woodwork, metalwork, model-making and introductory CAD. My completed projects have involved design development, technical drawing, material selection, measuring and marking, timber joinery, metal forming, fabrication, construction and finishing.
Projects have included a timber plant stand constructed using cross-halving joints and an organic willow-inspired metal candelabra developed through bending, forming, welding and structural refinement. I have also undertaken the design development of a rectilinear outdoor metal bench and an Australian flora and fauna panel intended for CNC manufacture. My university results include 85%—High Distinction—in Design and Technology Education 2 and 81%—High Distinction—in Materials Design and Technology 2.
As an educator, I break practical processes into clear stages and use explicit demonstrations, visual examples, safety instruction and progressive checks to support students as they develop their work. I encourage students to research, experiment, construct, evaluate and refine their ideas while building the technical competence and confidence required to work increasingly independently.
